The End Of Windows 7- What You Need To Know
The official end date of Windows 7 has been announced- January 14th 2020. What this means is that this operating system will no longer be supported by Windows and even before this date you will need a security update in order to keep it going. Therefore, it is worth knowing how to prepare for this and what your options are when this system finally stops operating.
No more support
To be clear, you will still be able to use Windows 7 if you want after January 14th 2020. Unfortunately, if you have any bugs or issues, there won’t be any help available with it, which is why they are recommending people update before this time in order to ensure that the system you use is secure.
Options
One of the simplest options is to upgrade your computer to Windows 10. Because it is also a Windows product, it also means you should be able to move your files to the new system. It is simply a matter of buying a copy of Windows 10 and installing it.
However, it is recommended that you back up your files just to be on the safe side, either by using an external drive or a cloud-style platform in order to access files without being dependent on your computer. You should also check to make sure that your computer has the right specifications in order to be able to download Windows 10.
Some people may not wish to spend money getting Windows 10 and may opt for Windows 8 as a less expensive option. The problem is that this system is also getting closer to its end of life phase, so there is the danger that you may end up paying out twice in relatively quick succession.
Another alternative is to use Linux, which is an open source operating system. It’s free to use and also has the advantage of being overseen by developers, so security patches come out on a regular basis. There are also various alternatives to Microsoft Office programs on there should you need them, while some programs do allow you to use Microsoft programs through them if necessary.
Switching to Mac is another option you may want to consider. While it is considered more secure, the downside is that they tend to be more expensive, so it depends how much you want to particularly invest.
