Windows 7 “End Of Life”- How Will It Affect You?

After January 15th 2020, Windows 7 will no longer be available, with any machines with the system getting popups effectively forcing an update for Windows 10.  It is important to make sure your devices are up to date in order to keep them fully updated and secure.

You need to check that your compliance software if up to date, or you could face a fine or prosecution. On top of that, a lot of other forms of software (such as accounting software) are not going to be compatible with Windows 7.

The reason this is a concern is because, without security updates, your device is more vulnerable to malware, viruses, and other threats. It also means you won’t be able to contact customer services if you have any issues with a device that is compatible with Windows 7.

This is especially important if you handle customer details such as credit card details, as this could potentially be hacked.#

Aside from being a necessary update, Windows 10 also offers improved access, such as being able to look up apps from the web via your desktop search button. It is also possible to use Cortana if you have a microphone hooked up with your device.

It is also possible to set up virtual desktops, making it easier to navigate between different apps and making the setup feel a lot less cluttered in general.

What you need to do

The first thing you need to do is update to Windows 10. This can be done by replacing older devices or by downloading the update. Make sure before you download it that you back up your photos and other important files (although it should be stated this is a good policy to have in general.)

Most devices now have Windows 10 pre-installed. It is also worth checking because some companies will allow trade-in for older computers, tablets, and so forth. There is also the argument that upgrading can also be useful in various ways (such as improved battery life).

If you are an Enterprise user, then you will still be able to get critical security updates over the next three years, with extended security support up to 2023.

There are different options available- If you have only one device, then you can get a single license, while there are also pro options for workstations as well. While there are some people who will need to pay in order to get the upgrade, people with accessibility issues will be able to get the upgrade without the additional payment.
